Apple MacBook 13.3-inch Laptop Apple MacBook 13.3-inch Laptop makes progress a beautiful thing. Instead of assembling a notebook from many minor parts, the new MacBook was reinvented from just one: the new, solid-aluminium unibody enclosure. It gets full credit for making MacBook thinner, lighter, and even more stunning. But it’s not all beauty. Because of the unibody, this MacBook is more durable than ever. It was designed to take on your world. So slip it into your backpack or briefcase and pull it out wherever you go — it’s impressive in any setting.

If you ever needed a final excuse to switch from PCs to Macs, this is it.

The unibody MacBook has an aluminium enclosure milled from a single slab of metal to give it added strength, sturdiness, low weight and a very thin profile. It is a very clever piece of design and has an integrity found in no other machine made by any other manufacturer. Although it looks gorgeous, the design is all about functionality not aesthetics, from the magnetic latch, hidden speakers that bounce sound off the screen, ergonomics of the keyboard and trackpad, to the overall fit and finish, which are flawless. There is no doubt that the people at Apple have really put their hearts and minds into developing this computer. It is mind-blowingly full of attention to detail.

When it comes to specification, the 2.4 Ghz model is probably a safer bet than the 2.0 Ghz one, because it has the backlit keyboard and its faster processor will take longer to become outdated. In terms of raw performance, this machine is as good as the previous MacBook Pro, which makes it great value. In short, this is a computer that will last for years.

Pros
- Ultra Sleek form factor
- Robust and durable construction
- Unlikely to become outdated quickly
- Excellent on-board graphics (very good for playing DVDs and games)
- Mac OSX: infinitely better than Windows Vista
- Superb new trackpad
- Improved backlit keyboard
- LED screen much better than previous MacBook screen
- Inbuilt DVD player
- Runs Windows (if you must)

Cons
- Highly reflective glossy screen is a major issue for some people (for me it is no problem)
- There are less expensive PCs available (but they won’t last as long)
- The omission of a Firewire port is a major issue for some people using video / camera equipment (buy an adapter or get the MacBook Pro)
- If you leave it lying around, someone will surely steal it

(Some reviews complain that screen quality is inferior to that of the 15.4″ MacBook Pro and 13″ MacBook Air. It is marginally inferior but you probably wouldn’t have noticed unless I told you. Ignore any negative comments about screen quality, the new MacBook’s screen is a quantum leap above the old machine’s. )

In short, I don’t think I have ever been able to recommend any other piece of technology so wholeheartedly. This really is a stunning product. You really won’t regret buying one. As a die-hard PC user for the last 20 years, I never thought I’d say that about a Mac. But it is the truth.
